Kolkata: Suspected Maoists shot dead three
CPI (M) supporters while a policeman was injured in a landmine
explosion in West Midnapore district today on the fourth day
of the bandh called by the Peoples Committee against Police
Atrocities (PCPA).
The three, of which two were members of the CPI(M)-backed
Gana Protirodh Committee, were taken away last night by
suspected Maoists and their bodies with bullet marks were
found bound hand and foot this morning in Belpahari area,
sources said.
Two of them, Nemai Singh and Phoni Singh, of Simulpal
village, were brothers who were actively associated with the
Committee, they said.
They had been warned earlier by Maoists to desist from
organising meetings and rallies against the Maoist-backed
PCPA.
Two years ago, Maoists had blown up a van killing a
doctor, a nurse and their driver at the same village.
Meanwhile, a policeman was injured in a landmine blast
at Ramgarh today, they said.
Director General of Police Bhupinder Singh had yesterday
said 70 to 75 people had been killed in the district since the
tribal agitation began a year ago.
