Train's engine derails; traffic on Howrah-Mumbai route hit

Nagpur: The engine of the Shalimar-Kurla Express train derailed near here, disrupting traffic on the Howrah-Mumbai route for several hours.

The engine of 8030 UP train was later put on tracks and it resumed its onward journey, but was running four hours behind schedule, official sources said.

There was no report of any casualty.

The derailment occurred around 12.05 pm between Salekasa and Darekasa section, which lies in the Naxal-hit area, of Nagpur division of South East Central Railway.

It took more than four hours for the railway authorities to restore traffic on the busy route.

Due to the mishap, 2943 Puri-Ahmedabad, 2130 Howrah- Pune Azad Hind, 2906 Howrah-Hapa and 2148 Bhuvneshwar-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus trains were running late by three hours, the sources added.
