Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh on Thursday faced a serious power crisis with the tripping of Anpara and Obra power plants in Sonebhadra district, reducing electricity generation to mere 300 MWs.

Power department sources here said generation in the plants came to a halt around 10.30 am due to technical faults in Obra-Panki and Obra-Anpara KV lines.

The state had to make do with mere 300 MWs generated in Panki, Paricha and Harduaganj plants.

However, four units of the five rendered non-functional at Obra were rectified by 3.30 pm and power generation resumed. Engineers were working hard to restore functioning of Anpara plant.

The state had not witnessed a power failure of this magnitude in a decade, they claimed.
