New Delhi: Coming to the defence of Delhi
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is under attack for
recommending parole to Jessica Lall case convict Manu Sharma,
Congress today said permission for it was not given by her and
it would be totally wrong to connect her with the matter.
"You are absolutely right when you condemn any fraud in
parole but you are totally wrong in connecting Congress Chief
Minister to it," party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi told
reporters here.
He said, "if there has been any violation of the parole's
established norms by anybody, action can be taken against him
but connecting Congress to it or Chief Minister to it is
totally wrong,"
"The permission for parole is not given by the Chief
Minister. Of course, the recommendation is made. But it is a
normal procedure," the Congress leader said.
Sharma (32), who is on parole for two months on account
of his mother's illness, was recently spotted in a nightclub
in a hotel here and his mother seen addressing a press
conference in their family hotel in Chandigarh.
His parole ends on November 22.
Speaking on the matter, Senior BJP leader V K Malhotra
said, "Sharma is on parole on the false pretext of his
mother's illness. The parole was recommended by Dikshit which
is condemnable. She took the decision coming under pressure
from Congress leaders as he is the son of an influential
Congress leader".
