200 country-made bombs seized from two coastal TN villages

More than 200 country-made bombs were recovered during raids in two coastal villages near Kudankulam in the district today, police said.

Tirunelveli(TN): More than 200 country-made bombs were recovered during raids in two coastal villages near Kudankulam in the district today, police said.
A strong contingent of armed police led by DSP Balaji and bomb squad experts found the bombs stored in buckets and buried along the seashore.

The bombs have been defused and stored safely in a private explosive godown, they said.

The DSP said the raids were carried out following a tip off that large quantity of bombs had been hoarded.

A clash between two groups during a wedding function early this week in Koothankuzhi village saw more than 50 such bombs being used.
Seven persons were injured in the clash and 20 persons had been arrested.

When police raided the villages, some of the fishermen escaped into the sea.

In a similar clash between two groups of fishermen some years ago in the village, ten persons were killed and scores of houses and boats damaged.

Police said further investigation was on to find out who had buried the bombs.
