Kanyakumari (TN): Tension prevailed in this district as a bandh called by BJP protesting the attack on one of its state-level functionaries here witnessed sporadic stone throwing incidents targeting buses.

Police said at least 25 buses were damaged as BJP and other Hindu activists allegedly pelted stones demanding the arrest of the culprits involved in the attack on BJP Tamil Nadu unit state executive council member MR Gandhi yesterday by a four-member gang.

Gandhi, who suffered cut injuries in the assault, has been hospitalised and his condition stated to be stable.

Protesting the attack, the BJP has called for a day-long bandh in the district. Most of the shops and small businesses remained closed.

Though buses to several remote routes were stopped since last night, buses operated in main areas were damaged in stone pelting.

Police said that buses were operated only to neighbouring Tirunelveli in convoy, with escort, in view of the stone-pelting.
