Madurai: More than 40 people, including spectators, were injured during bull taming sport, `Jallikattu`, at Sakkudi near here as part of a temple festival, police said on Monday.
Nine persons, including a police official, were injured when the stage erected for spectators collapsed due to crowding.
Four bull tamers, who sustained severe injuries in the event, yesterday were admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital, police said.
Around 1,200 bulls were brought from 10 districts and 600 bull tamers participated in the event, the organisers said.
Those who tame the bulls successfully get prizes. The event was conducted as per the guidelines from both the Supreme Court and Madras High Court, the organisers said.
