Madurai: Proving the adage that learning
knows no limits, a 77-year-old retired clerk has cleared the
class XII Tamil Nadu board examinations with over 60 per cent
marks but felt his score was short of his expectation.

Veeramuthu, who joined the government service as a
lower division clerk with SSLC qualification and retired as
deputy registrar of cooperatives after promotions, appeared
for the exams held in March as a private candidate and
obtained 742 marks out of 1,200. He now wants to study more.

"I could not study when I was young. Now, I wish to
study," Veeramuthu, whose two sons are doctors, told reporters
Saturday, a day after the results were announced.

He said he appeared for the exam as he wanted to join
BA (Yoga) course and pursue education.

Veeramuthu is now determined to do his post-
graduation. "I will study BA and MA. I am determined to
become a post-graduate," Veeramuthu said.

However, he is not overwhelmed with the marks he
scored, saying it fell short of his expectations. "I expected
1,000 plus. Days before the examination a close friend of mine
died, and I could not focus on my studies as I was upset," he
said.
