AIADMK MLA, two party workers injured in attack

An AIADMK MLA and his two associates were on Friday injured when they were allegedly attacked by a group led by a party worker at Manamadurai in the district.

Sivaganga: An AIADMK MLA and his two associates were on Friday injured when they were allegedly attacked by a group led by a party worker at Manamadurai in the district.

The MLA Gunashekaran from the Manamadurai constituency and his two followers were attacked with sickles by a five persons this evening, DSP Purushothaman said.
The three were sitting in a shop when Lokesh, an AIADMK worker, his brother and three others picked up a quarrel with the MLA over issue of removing the worker`s shop which had been put up on government land, he said.

The gang attacked the MLA and his two followers Somanathan and Arumugam, both AIADMK workers, and fled.
The MLA, who received five cut injuries, was taken to Madurai government hospital for treatment. Somanathan and Arumugam have been admitted to a hospital in Manamadurai.

While three persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, police are still trying to locate Lokesh and his brother who are still at large.
