Chennai: DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan and Treasurer MK Stalin would be among its senior leaders who will lead protest meetings across the state on December 1 condemning the ruling AIADMK on issues including the recent hike in bus fares and milk prices.

Stalin and Anbazhagan will address the public meetings at Ramanathapuram and North Chennai respectively, a DMK release here said.

Within months of taking over, the Jayalalithaa government had burdened the people with over Rs 4,000 crore in taxes besides hiking bus fares and milk prices overnight which has affected all sections of the society, the release said.

The protest meetings would be held at all district headquarters including Salem, Tiruvannamalai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Kanyakumari districts on December 1, it said.

The actual hike on the ground reality is between 90 percent and 100percent.Ordinary regular busses are converted as delux and semi delux buses by simply changing the colour of the board. For example the bus ticket from chengalput to tambaram is 26rs while in electric train is only 7rs.The distance b/w 2places are 30km shows the government is charging a shade under 1rup/km.

Undoubtedly the cost of diesel has been increased many times since the last fare hike during 2001, but overburding the people by the way of 75% in the existing fare is not fair. Losses can be recovered by the way of hiking the fare gradually would give name to Ms Jayalalitha since every body knows about the position for the last 05 years ruled by DMK. Therefore, people of tamilnadu particularly in the middle class section eagerly waiting for cut in fare hike to some extent. Will Cheif Minister of TN would consider for the benefit of her name and gratitude towards the people who elected her with full majority?
