April 15 to be observed as `Transgenders Day` in the state

Three years after setting up a welfare board for transgenders, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi Tuesday announced that April 15 will be henceforth observed as `Transgenders Day` in the state.

observed as `Transgenders Day` in the state.

He made the announcement following an appeal from the
Tamil Nadu Transgenders Association, a government release here
said.

Earlier, the government had set up the Transgenders
Welfare Board to address their grievances, on April 2008.

The Board was set up to look into the social problems
faced by transgenders.
