Patna: In the wake of the alleged killing of
two students from Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today
talked to his Tamil Nadu counterpart M Karunanidhi seeking
protection for those studying in various deemed universities
there.
Kumar talked to his counterpart in Chennai and to Union
Home Minister P Chidambaram and sought protection for students
from Bihar and said that 'anti-Bihari' sentiments should be
nipped in the bud.
The move came after the parents of Ashish Ranjan, a
student of Annamalai Engineering College in Tamil Nadu,
complained to the authority here that he was missing from the
college premises for the past few days.
Security for students from Bihar studying in Chennai
should be beefed up, Kumar said and directed the Home
Secretary Aamir Subhani and Director General of Police,
Neelmani to contact their counterparts in Chennai and inform
him about the latest situation.
The two officials, after getting in touch with their
counterparts, informed the CM that three bodies were recovered
from a canal out of which two were identified as those of
Ashish Ranjan and Sarfaraj from Bihar while the third body was
that of a student from Jharkhand.
Expressing sorrow over the 'killing' of the two Bihari
students in Chennai, Kumar announced an ex-gratia payment of
Rs 1.5 lakh to the bereaved families.
