Nagercoil: Some unidentified persons on Friday attacked Muthuraman, traders wing leader of BJP, here when he was on his way to office, police said.

Muthuraman, who suffered injuries in his hand and leg, was admitted to a private hospital, police said, adding, his condition is out of danger.

The assailants fled the scene when Muthuraman raised an alarm, police said.

Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan visited him at the hospital. Condemning the incident, he urged the police to take immediate steps to find out those behind the attack.

"Attacks on our party workers were continuing in the state. Police should take stern actions to bring an end to this and find out those people behind targeting Hindu outfit leaders", he said.

Protesting the attack, local people and BJP workers conducted a demonstration before the hospital and blocked the traffic demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Few months back BJP state executive member MR Gandhi sustained injuries when a four-member gang attacked him with sharp edged weapons when he was on a morning walk. The gang members were arrested later.
