Chennai: After the ruling AIADMK and its arch rival DMK announced its candidates for the Srirangam bypoll, the BJP's state unit on Saturday said it would announce its candidate after holding discussions with alliance partners and senior leadership.
By-poll for the Srirangam constituency was necessitated after former Chief Minister and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa was convicted in a disproportionate assets case.
The poll is scheduled for February 13.
S Valarmathi, joint secretary of AIADMK Tiruchirapalli wing, is the ruling party's candidate while DMK has fielded N Anand who unsuccessfully contested from the same constituency against Jayalalithaa in 2011.
"The district wing and senior state leaders are desirous to contest he bypoll. The details of the candidate will be announced after discussion with alliance parties and with party leadership," BJP Tamil Nadu Unit President Thamizhisai Sounderrajan told reporters here.
"After completing the formalities and holding discussions with the alliance parties we will announce the candidate", she said.
