Puducherry: The opposition AIADMK in Puducherry today demanded that the territorial government book the accused involved in the alleged abduction and rape of a 17-year-old school girl under the Goondas Act.
Although there has been extensive protests against the incident, Chief Minister N.Rangasamy and the government machinery as a whole has been handling the case as a matter of routine, AIADMK Puducherry unit Secretary A.Anbalagan, MLA, alleged.
"Students, women and other public opinion leaders have resorted to agitations since the incident occurred on January 1 but no firm step has been taken to bring strong provisions of the penal laws against the two accused," he said.
He said the Tamil Nadu government had evolved a 13 point action plan to ensure safety and security of women.
"Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had lost no time to generate awareness among people and also to ensure that women were saved from atrocities and criminal acts", he said.
The government should not delay booking the accused under Goondas Act so that deterrent action could be taken against them, he added.
Two persons, including a bus conductor, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
