BSP`s Tamil Nadu unit President K Armstrong was arrested in connection with the 2008 law college campus violence in Chennai in which two groups of students clashed.

Chennai: BSP`s Tamil Nadu unit President K
Armstrong was arrested on Sunday in connection with the 2008 law
college campus violence here in which two groups of students
clashed.

Armstrong, who had contested against DMK leader and Deputy
Chief Minister MK Stalin from Kolathur constituency in the
April 13 assembly polls, was arrested from a hotel here,
police said.

His arrest comes in the wake of the Supreme Court directing
Tamil Nadu DGP to file an affidavit explaining why the accused
named as "absconding" in the charge sheet filed in connection
with the clash at Dr Ambedkar Law College in November 2008
were not arrested.

The court hearing a petition alleging non-action by police
to prevent the clash had asked how an accused who had
contested elections was shown as ``absconding.``

Counsel for the petitioner had submitted that 11 persons,
including Armstrong, had been shown as ?absconding` accused
and they were yet to be arrested.

Many students were injured in the bloody violence in
November, 2008 even as police were charged with remaining mute
spectators.
