Kancheepuram: Police have registered a case in connection with the crash of an IAF trainer aircraft into a lake near Chennai even as its wreckage has been moved to the airbase.

The case was registered on a complaint from the local Village Administrative Officer about the January 31 crash in which the two pilots ejected to safety, police said today.

The police inquiries would be based on the report that would be filed by the IAF authorities who were yet to conclude their probe, they said.

The two-seater Kiran Mk II basic trainer aircraft, which had taken off from the Air Force Station at Tambaram on Chennai outskirts plunged into the lake at Iyencheri village.

Parts of the aircraft were salvaged and removed to the Tambaram base yesterday.
