Kumbakonam: A Children's Park built in
the memory of 94 primary school students who were charred to
death in a major fire tragedy here in 2004 was today
inaugurated by Tamil Nady Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin.
The park has been located on the site where a Rs 60 lakh
memorial already exists in Palakkarai area of the town. The
park had been built at a cost of Rs 19 lakh.
Stalin had ordered construction of the park following
appeals by the parents of the victims.
In one of the worst fire tragedies in the state, 94
primary students of the Sri Krishna High School died when a
fire that broke out in the kitchen swept through the thatched
roof class rooms on July 16.
