Coast Guard DG accorded ceremonial guard of honour

Director General of Coast Guard Vice Admiral Anil Chopra was today accorded a ceremonial guard of honour on his last official visit here at the Coast Guard Air Station.

Senior officers of Coast Guard Region - East, including
the Regional Commander Inspector General S P Sharma was also
present.

During his tenure, the Coast Guard had inducted 14 boats
and seven aircraft in its fleet, a release said.

By 2012-end, 42 Coast Guard Stations and 15 air
units will become functional, it said.

Land acquisition for setting up an Indian Coast Guard
Academy in Azhikkal, a coastal village in Kerala`s Kannur
district, has also been sanctioned.

Vice Admiral Chopra was commissioned into the Indian Navy
in 1975 and took over as DGICG in 2008.
