Nagapattinam (TN): CPI(M) General Secretary
Prakash Karat has said the party would take efforts to create
an alternative front in Tamil Nadu against DMK and AIADMK.
"Both AIADMK and DMK are playing opportunistic politics
and following similar economic policies. They will align with
Congress and BJP alternatively. CPI(M) will work to create an
alternative front,"he said at a public meeting here last night
at the end of the party`s four day 20th state conference.
Karat said people should support the party`s initiatives to
form such a front as only the Left parties are capable of
bringing in a difference in people`s lives.
He slammed the UPA government for adopting wrong economic
policies "which helps only multinational companies" and said
the CPI(M) would soon chalk out a plan for a nationwide stir
against such policies.
On farmers` suicides, Karat said official statistics
itself stated that over 2.5 lakh farmers had committed suicide
in the country since 1999. "Farmers are not able to get fair
price for their produce. UPA government is further planning to
reduce subsidies provided to farmers," he alleged.
Referring to the power cuts in Tamil Nadu, Karat said the
situation had come to such a pass as no steps had been taken
by past governments to increase generation.
Earlier, the party took out a rally in the town.
