Chennai: It was an enthralled Hillary
Clinton this evening as the young faculty and students of a
local cultural group brought on some captivating music and
dance performance, prompting her to say she "was honoured" to
be a part of the moment.
As the first serving US Secretary of State to visit
the city, Clinton found space in her itinerary to soak herself
in the culturally rich South Indian dances of Kathakali,
Mohiniyattam and Bharatanatyam.
Clinton was received by cultural group Kalakshetra
Director Leela Samson and taken around the dance classrooms
and the museum for a first hand experience of the portals.
After watching a fusion of Kathakali and Mohiniyattam
with eight dancers and another Bharatanatyam performance by
five dancers, a visibly delighted Clinton said she was "so
honoured" to be here to witness the "beautiful music" and
Clinton said though she had witnessed some of these
dances earlier, this was the first time she watched a
performance so close that she "could see every muscle (of the
