A case has been registered against a DMK councillor for allegedly distributing money to voters in Pannivetti Valasai area in the district, police said.

Ramanathapuram: A case has been
registered against a DMK councillor for allegedly distributing
money to voters in Pannivetti Valasai area in the district,
police said.

They said currency notes worth Rs 1,100 were seized from
the thatched roof of four residents of the area, who alleged
DMK men had slid the money early this morning after they had
refused to accept it yesterday.

Police said they had registered a case in connection with
the incident against the Tiruppullani Union Councillor
Sivasubramanian DMK.

Police said that in their complaint, the residents of the
houses alleged the DMK men had visited the area around
midnight yesterday and tried to distribute money in return for
voting in favour of the Congress candidate Hasan Ali.

However, they had turned them away saying they would vote
according to their conscience, the complaint said. But the DMK
men had returned when the residents were asleep and had
slipped the money on the roof, the complaint alleged.

Meanwhile a report from Srirangam said that a group of men
were handed over to police early today morning by some
residents for allegedly distributing money to voters.

Police said they had been released after making an oral
enquiry. They said they had also seized some documents
including booth slips. The election officials said they were
looking into the incident and a case would be registered if
found true.
