DMK distributing money to voters: AIADMK complains to CEC

Alleging "large-scale poll violations", it said, "... unfortunately the officials and subordinates of the Election Commission are only mute spectators."

Chennai: Alleging that DMK was distributing
cash to voters despite Election Commission trying to curb use
of money power in elections, AIADMK Saturday accused EC officials
and their subordinates of being mute spectators to
"large-scale violations" by the ruling party in poll-bound
Tamil Nadu.

In a complaint sent to Chief Election Commissioner S Y
Quraishi and state Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar, the
party sought deployment of central forces to check vehicles to
prevent large-scale transportation of money by DMK candidates.

"The DMK partymen are also distributing money on the
pretext of handing over booth slips to the voters," AIADMK
Advocates` Wing Secretary Manoj Pandian said in his complaint.

Alleging "large-scale poll violations", it said, "...
unfortunately the officials and subordinates of the Election
Commission are only mute spectators."

The complainant referred to reports in a section of media
that DMK`s Aruppukottai candidate KKSSR Ramachandran had
distributed money to voters.

> "Though EC is keen on curbing money power in elections,
officials and subordinates to the Election Commission are
hesitant to initiate any action against DMK men who are
responsible for distributing money in Virudhunagar district as
well as other parts of Tamil Nadu," Pandian alleged.

There was "reliable information" that DMK was taking
advantage of power cuts during nights and distributing cash to
voters under the cover of darkness, he said.
