Chennai: Asserting that the DMK was not
against Hindi as a language, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M
Karunanidhi on Sunday said the party was only opposed to its
imposition on non-Hindi speaking people.

"We are not against Hindi, but only opposed to its
imposition," he said, addressing a large number of Hindi-
speaking workers involved in construction of the Rs 500 crore
new Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly complex here.

Hindi songs were played during the feast he hosted for
the migrant workers.

The DMK had launched a massive anti-Hindi agitation in
1965 and formed the government in 1967 on the anti-Hindi
plank. The then DMK government, led by late C N Annadurai
later introduced a two-language formula for school students,
doing away with Hindi which was taught as a third language.
