Chennai: The DMK on Wednesday slammed the AIADMK government for its alleged failure to check the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the aftermath of jailing of former chief minister Jayalalithaa in a graft case.

The DMK District Secretaries meeting, chaired by party patriarch M Karunanidhi, deliberated on the prevailing law and order situation and urged the Centre "to take steps to put an end to atrocities committed against people".

The meeting passed resolutions resolving to hold democratic and peaceful demonstrations to highlight hardship caused to people due to protests by ruling AIADMK activists.

Karunanidhi had yesterday said that the onus of maintaining law and order wrested with the government, as parts of the state witnessed sporadic protests after the Karnataka High Court rejected the bail plea of Jayalalithaa who has been sentenced to four-year jail term in the Rs 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case by a trial court.
