Flood alert in Hogenakkal

A flood alert has been issued to people living along the banks of the Cauvery at Hogenakkal following heavy rain in the catchment areas of Karnataka.

Dharmapuri (TN): A flood alert has been issued
to people living along the banks of the Cauvery at Hogenakkal
following heavy rain in the catchment areas of Karnataka.

Some 15,926 cusecs of water is being let out from both the
Krishnaraj Sagar and Kabini Water Reservoirs in Karnataka into
the Cauvery,increasing the water flow at the Hogenakkal side.
In a statement today, Dharmapuri Collector-in-charge DRO
Maheswari Ravikumar appealed to the residents of low lying
areas to move to safer places.

No tourists would be permitted to take bath in the river
coursing through Hogenakkal and `coracle boating` would not
be allowed.
Police are maintaining strict vigil at places where people
usually enter to take bath in the river.
