Chennai: Vigilance raids were today conducted at the premises of former DMK minister K Ponmudi and his relatives in Chennai and his native Villupuram, 160 km from here.

The raids were conducted following complaints against the former Higher Education Minister of amassing disproportionate assets, police said.

He was arrested in Chennai on August 31 in a land grabbing case.

Former ministers Veerapandi S Arumugam (Salem), K N Nehru (Tiruchirappalli) and N K K P Raja (Erode) were also arrested on land grabbing charges in the crackdown launched by the Jayalalithaa Government on land grabbing.

Political enemies are clearly behind the police actions, the courts have to be very careful of checking the complainants, as most of the cases are ``Land grabbing``, and that the police at that time years ago never helped them, as though the Courts were impotent then, it is a mockery of the judicial system that was very active, hence most of the cases are farbricated, and totallt civil in nature, but being made criminal, on vengeance, and now with a new Government they have a ventilator, to go to court on criminal grounds, is a judicial joke.
