Four arrested for attempting to loot ATM in Tamil Nadu, weapons seized

An alert highway patrol team on Friday foiled an attempt by a gang to loot an ATM near here and arrested four of them and seized weapons including country made bombs, police said.

Virudhunagar: An alert highway patrol team on Friday foiled an attempt by a gang to loot an ATM near here and arrested four of them and seized weapons including country made bombs, police said.

However, two other members of the gang managed to give a slip to the police under the cover of darkness in the wee hours.

Two police constables on the patrol duty on a two-wheeler noticed a van parked in front of the UCO Bank ATM at Kariappati and two persons trying to tamper with the machines.

On seeing the police, the duo fled and the van also started moving.

However, the Police personnel gave a hot chase and intercepted the van at a short distance away. They detained four occupants and seized weapons like country bombs, crowbar.

Investigations revealed that the four were members of a gang from Salem who had been targeting ATMs situated in remote areas, police said, adding that a hunt was on to nab the two others.
