Chennai: As the low pressure over Comorin area moves northwest and intensifies into a depression, the MeT office here today warned of heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep in the next 48 hours.

Fishermen in the coasts of south Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep areas have been advised not to venture into sea, the MeT office said.

Meanwhile, normal life in Chennai was affected as city buses had to brave their way through water-clogged roads.

In Cuddalore district, officials said three mines at the Neyveli Lignite Corporation were submerged following heavy rains, leading to suspension of mining activity.
