Tiruchirapalli: Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha on Wednesday offered special prayers at the famous temple of Lord Sri Ranganathaswamy at Srirangam on the occasion of her birthday as per the Tamil almanac.
Jayalalithaa spent nearly 90 minutes in the sprawling temple and offered prayers to the presiding deity and other deities. She also made some offerings to the Lord, temple sources said.
Being her birthday as per Tamil almanac (birth star Magam in the month of Masi), it was her private visit to Srirangam, from where she was elected to the state assembly.
She was received by the priests with full temple honours on her arrival at the shrine.
Earlier, the Chief Minister arrived here by a special aircraft and reached nearby Srirangam by road.
Elaborate security arrangements were made in the city in view of Jayalalithaa`s visit. She later left for Chennai.
