Jaya slams Cong-led UPA govt
Lashing out at the UPA government, Tamil Nadu CM said if it had allotted even a part of the state`s demand for Rs 2.5 lakh crore funds, there would have been no need for a recent tax revision.
Chennai: Lashing out at the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday said if it had allotted even a part of the state`s demand for Rs 2.5 lakh crore funds, there would have been no need for a recent tax revision.
"We had recently revised the tax structure to mobilise revenue around Rs 4000 crore. If the Centre had allotted even Rs 10000 crore of the Rs 2.5 lakh crore, there would have been no need to revise the taxes," she said, intervening during a debate in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
She said she had made a plea with the Centre for a special component plan of Rs 2.5 lakh crore.
The Chief Minister had been flaying the Centre consistently, saying it had not granted funds to the state even while downsizing its share of kerosene.
Tamil Nadu government had recently revised tax structures to meet its revenue even as it had accused the previous DMK government of putting the state in a debt burden of over Rs one lakh crore.
