Judicial custody of five Maoists extended to July 2

A district court here on Wednesday extended till July 2 the custody of five Maoists, including front ranking leaders Roopesh and his wife Shyna.

Coimbatore: A district court here on Wednesday extended till July 2 the custody of five Maoists, including front ranking leaders Roopesh and his wife Shyna.

First Additional District judge R Sakthivel, before whom the couple were produced, along with three of their accomplices lodged in the central jail here, extended the period of judicial custody till July 2, police said.

The couple, who were also lodged in the Central Jail,had been taken to Kerala some days back with regard to some cases in that state.

Since their judicial custody period expires today in connection with a case here, they were brought from Kerala this morning and produced before the judge, along with three accomplices.

The couple were later taken back to Kerala, they said.

Roopesh, wanted in at least 20 cases in Kerala, along with Shyna, Anup, Veeramani and Kannan were arrested on May 4 at Karumathampatti near Coimbatore by a joint team of Andhra, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police.
