Kanimozhi`s mother leaves for Delhi

A special Supreme Court bench is scheduled to hear Kanimozhi`s bail plea in 2G case on Monday.

Chennai: With a special Supreme Court bench scheduled to hear DMK MP Kanimozhi`s bail plea in the 2G spectrum case on Monday, her mother Rajathiammal on Sunday left for Delhi.

Rajathiammal left by an Air India flight at 1810 hrs, airport sources said.

Justice GS Singhvi, whose bench has been monitoring the case, will hold a special hearing along with Justice BS Chauhan to decide the bail applications of Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, and Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar.

On June 17, two judges of the apex court, who were scheduled to hear the bail plea of Kanimozhi, an accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, had recused themselves from the hearing.

CBI had filed an affidavit opposing the bail pleas of Kanimozhi and co-accused Sharad Kumar on the ground that if released, they could tamper with evidence and influence witnesses.

Kanimozhi and Kumar had moved the apex court seeking bail on June 10 challenging the Delhi High Court verdict rejecting their bail on the ground that they have strong political connections and the possibility of them influencing witnesses cannot be ruled out.

Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan also left by the same flight to Delhi, airport sources said.
