Chennai: Accusing DMK chief M Karunanidhi of
spreading "falsehood out of frustration", Tamil Nadu Finance
Minister O Panneerselvam on Sunday refuted his allegations that
the vigilance department was under the control of Chief
Karunanidhi yesterday, in party mouthpiece `Murasoli`,
had accused Jayalalithaa of holding the Vigilance office
despite facing a disproportionate assets case.
He also pointed out that Kerala Chief Minister Oomen
Chandy relinquished the Vigilance portfolio after a court
ordered further probe into his role in palmolein case.
Panneerselvam refuted the DMK chief`s statement, saying
it was "untrue" and the department was under the Law Minister.
The anti-corruption department is with the Law Minister
ever since Jayalalithaa assumed office on May 16, the minister
said, adding that he held the post during the AIADMK chief`s
earlier tenure between 2001 and 2006.
"Karunanidhi has reached the zenith of blabbering without
ascertaining facts as he is frustrated over DMK losing power
and the arrests of his family members and former ministerial
colleagues," he charged.
Unlike Karunanidhi who "did not go for appeal in the
(former DMK minister) T Kiruttinan murder case in which his
son MK Alagiri is an accused", Jayalalithaa was facing all
`false` cases filed against her by the DMK regime and had been
exonerated in over 13 of them, he said.
