Chennai: DMK president M Karunanidhi today urged the Tamil Nadu government to expedite rain-related relief works in the state, including announcing compensation for farmers whose crops have been affected due to heavy downpour following the northeast monsoon.
He said that various parts of the state have been affected by the monsoon rains, including on the agriculture front and said the government should immediately press district collectors into relief work.
The state government should not wait for central assistance in this regard but allocate money from its own special funds, he said in a statement here.
"Further, announcement should be made regarding relief to affected farmers and Ministers should be deputed to the respective districts to meet people," he said in a statement here.
