Last budget of DMK govt to be presented on February 4

The last budget of the current DMK government in Tamil Nadu will be presented in the state Assembly on February 4.

Chennai: The last budget of the current
DMK government in Tamil Nadu will be presented in the state
Assembly on February 4.

The date has been fixed by Governor S S Barnala,
Assembly secretary M Selvaraj said in a statement today.

Being an election year, it would not be full-fledged
budget, but only an interim one.

The Assembly session would begin here on January 7
with the customary Governor`s address to the state Assembly.

Both the Governor`s address and the budget are likely
to contain more `freebie` schemes, considering the penchant of
the ruling party towards providing such sops.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had recently said that
his government would implement populist schemes for the poor
till poverty was eradicated from the state.

`Vote-on-account` will be taken on February 11 and the
final supplementary estimates will be presented on the same
day, Selvaraj said.

The term of the incumbent DMK government ends this
year and Assembly elections are due in May.
