Chennai: A low pressure in Bay of Bengal may bring in heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka during the next 24 to 48 hours, the MeT office said here Thursday.

   The low pressure area in South West Bay of Bengal now lies between Gulf of Mannar and adjoining areas of South Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.

    Under its influence, rain or thundershowers would occur at many places over south Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and south interior Karnataka in the next 24 to 48 hours, it said.

     For Chennai city, the sky condition would be cloudy. A few spells of rain or thundershowers may occur while there may heavy rainfall in some areas during this period, it said.

   Rameswaram received the maximum rainfall of 15 cm in the last 24 hours ending 8.30 AM today followed by Tiruvarur at 14 cms. Cholavaram recorded 11 cm, while Nagapattinam and Tiruvallur districts each recorded 10 cm.
