Missing fishermen: TN govt announces Rs 5 lakh as relief

The Tamil Nadu government announced Rs five lakh each as relief to the next of kin of four fishermen from Rameswaram who went missing after venturing into the sea recently.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announced Rs five lakh each as relief to the next of kin of
four fishermen from Rameswaram who went missing after
venturing into the sea recently.

The body of one of them was found washed ashore in a Sri
Lankan island, after the four had set sail on April 2, an
official press release said here.
"Ten days have passed since they went missing. With the
body of one recovered and the rest yet to be traced. Chief
Minister M Karunanidhi has directed a relief of Rs five lakh
each to the families of the fishermen," it said.
The compensation had been announced keeping with
precedents, it added.
