Kochi: Director of controversial film `Dam 999` Sohan Roy on Saturday sought police protection from the Tamil Nadu Government to attend a hearing on December 12 in Chennai in connection with the ban on his film in that state.
Challenging the ban, Roy has filed a petition in the
Supreme court, which had directed that a personal hearing on
the issue must be held on Dec 12 at the office of Principal
Home Secretary.
In a letter to Tamil Nadu Home Secretary Rameshram
Mishra, Roy said he was prepared to appear before him with his
legal advisor Sajeev and T Prabhakaran, Tamil Nadu distributor
of the movie, in Chennai on Monday.
However, apprehending threats from various political
parties like DMK, MDMK and PMK, he sought police protection
from Chennai airport to the Secretary`s chamber, where the
meeting is to be held and back.
Tamil Nadu Government has banned the film, depicting
collapse of a dam, after various political parties protested
against it claiming it was based on Mullaperiyar dam issue
over which the state and Kerala are locked in a row.
He said his crew was attacked in the premises of Prasad
Lab in Chennai recently during a preview and he was totally
isolated from the crew on that day. The protesters took away
the negatives of a Telugu film from the Prasad Lab,
misconstruing it to be that of his film `DAM999`.
