Coimbatore: About 300 workers of Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, political wing of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhakam, were arrested on Thursday when they attempted to take a two-wheeler procession to Walayar, the Tamil Nadu-Kerala
border, demanding the Kerala government to implement the Supreme Court verdict on Mullaperiyar Dam.
As the slogan shouting workers gathered near Aattupalam Toll gate on Palakkad Highway, over 100 police personnel were deployed to prevent them from taking out the procession defying the ban order, police said.
When the workers attempted to board the vehicles and moved forward with raising slogans police arrested them.
Meanwhile, 38 Shiv Sena workers were arrested when they were proceeding to block some Kerala-bound trains in the city railway station, as part of their protest against the attitude of Kerala over the dam, police said.
