B S Gnanadesikan Friday met Sonia Gandhi here and resolved to strengthen the party unit in the state by taking along everyone.

Gnanadesikan, a Rajya Sabha member and a known
loyalist of Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan, took over as
new chief of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee in Chennai on
Wednesday.

During his meeting with Gandhi, Gnanadesikan thanked her for "imposing faith" in him and appointing him as the chief of the state Congress unit.

"I promised her that I would take everyone along and
strengthen the Congress in the state. I would work with every
Congressmen to take the party to new heights in Tamil Nadu.
This is what I told her," he told reporters after the meeting.

This is the first time that Gnanadesikan is meeting
Gandhi after taking over his assignment.
62-year-old Gnanadesikan, who replaced K V Thangkabalu
after he was removed from the post last week, has already
asked senior leaders to tour the state and interact with party
workers in a bid to strengthen the party.
