Chennai: A CPI-M backed farmers' body,
spearheading the agitation against alleged land encroachment
by Karnataka Chief Justice P D Dinakaran, today said the state
government was making no effort to reclaim the land and
distribute it among landless Dalits and others.
In a letter to the Revenue Secretary, the Tamil Nadu
Vivasayigal Sangam president K Balakrishnan said the District
Collector had sent reports to the government on the extent of
alleged encroachment in Kaverirajapuram village in Tiruvallur
district, but no effort was taken to reclaim it.
The government must therefore immediately reclaim the
land and distribute it among landless Dalits and others, he
said in the letter, a copy of which was made available to
reporters.
The elevation of Justice Dinakaran to the Supreme Court
has been put on hold, following the land grab charges, over
which he is also facing impeachment proceedings.
Justice Dinakaran has denied the charges, asserting that
he would come out clean on the issue.
A Survey of India team appointed by the Centre to probe
the land-grab charges against him is due to submit its report
in a week.
