Bangalore: Former Tamil Nadu chief
minister Jayalalithaa Friday requested the Karnataka High Court to issue order for "true" translation of documents in the
disproportionate wealth case against her to facilitate a fair trial.
When Jayalalithaa`s petition challenging the trial
court order rejecting her plea for fresh translation of
documents came up, her counsel Udaya Holla submitted that the
present translation was "defective".
He contended that a true translation from Tamil into
English was all important for cross examination of witnesses
and for a free and fair trial.
The law requires to arrive at a just decision by
finding out the truth, Navneeth Krishnan, counsel for
Jayalalithaa submitted.
Justice Subash B Adi adjourned further hearing to September 7.
On July 22, the Special Court trying the
disproportionate assets case had rejected Jayalalithaa`s plea
for fresh translation of the documents (from Tamil to English)
and fixed August 6 for commencing the trial.
The wealth case, which was heard by a Chennai court,
had been transferred to Bangalore by the Supreme Court.
