Oppn walkout in TN Assembly; boycott interim budget

Members of AIADMK, MDMK, CPI(M) and CPI came to the House wearing black outfit, and boycotted the last budget of the ruling DMK in its current term as the state heads for polls due in May.

Chennai: Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu Assembly led by AIADMK on Saturday boycotted the interim budget presented by Finance Minister K Anbazhagan, after the Chair rejected their demand to raise certain issues, including 2G spectrum allocation and price rise.

Members of AIADMK, MDMK, CPI(M) and CPI came to the House
wearing black outfit, and boycotted the last budget of the
ruling DMK in its current term as the state heads for polls
due in May.

Earlier, when the Question Hour began, Deputy Leader of
the AIADMK Legislature Party O Pannerselvam rose and started
reading out a statement on certain issues which were not
audible.

However, Law Minister Duraimurugan objected to this and
said issues cannot be taken up during Question Hour.

When Speaker R Avudiayappan allowed Pannerselvam to
continue, he made some remarks which drew strong reactions and
noisy protests from the ruling DMK. Immediately the Speaker
said he would not allow Panneerselvam to speak further.

AIADMK members protested and staged a walkout, accompanied
by allies MDMK and the Left parties.

The Speaker expunged the remarks made by Pannerselvam and
proceeded with the question hour.

Later, Panneerselvam told reporters that the Opposition
staged the walkout after they were refused permission to raise
issues like sky-rocketing prices, power cut, law and order and
2G spectrum scam.
