Over 2,000 stitching units on indefinite strike in TN

Nearly 2, 500 Power Table Owners (PTO) (hosiery stitching units) in nearby Tirupur today began their indefinite strike seeking immediate implementation of wage revision for job workers.

Coimbatore: Nearly 2, 500 Power Table Owners (PTO) (hosiery stitching units) in nearby Tirupur today began their indefinite strike seeking immediate implementation of wage revision for job workers.

The units have entered into an agreement last month with South India Hosiery Manufacturers Association (SIHMA) for 21 per cent wage increase under job work, which was to be implemented with immediate effect.
However, the owners, stitching to the domestic hosiery manufacturers, claimed that only some members had partially implemented the agreement and announced the indefinite strike last evening, PTO sources said.
With nearly 40,000 persons employed in these units, the strike, if continued would seriously affect the hosiery units, following festival season, particularly Deepavali season, they said.
