Chennai: Central paramilitary forces will be deployed at all the over 54,000 polling booths during the April 13 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls, a top police officer said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters here, Director General of Police (DGP) Bholonath said around 57,000 policemen will be pressed into poll related duties. He said 200 companies of paramilitary forces are currently in the state for poll duty and an additional 85 companies will also join them.
The Assembly polls are expected to see a keen contest between the two leading fronts led by the ruling DMK and the main opposition AIADMK.
Bholonath said police officers across the state have been told to discharge their duty impartially.
According to him, 2,626 complaints have been registered in the state for violation of the model code of conduct in place for the elections.
