Rangasamy on Wednesday met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi here amid
speculation that he would seek the party`s support for his

believed that the political situation in the Union Territory
of Puducherry was discussed at the meeting.
"It was a courtesy call. I met her to seek her
blessings," he told reporters after the meeting.
Rangasamy needs the support of his former party
Congress as AIADMK, with which he fought the elections, parted
ways with him after the polls. After Rangasamy took over as

The issue may have come up for discussion, but there
is no official word on what transpired at the meeting.
Rangasamy`s AINRC won 15 of 30 seats in alliance with
AIADMK in the assembly elections. He needs one more seat to
gain a majority on his own in the Assembly.
The Union Territories Act provides for nomination of
three more and Rangasamy wanted to use the provision to
artificially gain an absolute majority for his party, but the
Congress and AIADMK thwarted the move.
With no other option left, he started wooing Congress,
with which he parted company six months back.
Though the government has five ministers, including
Rangasamy, none have as yet been allocated portfolios.
