After few years, Erode town and its surroundings
experienced rain for 11 hours continuously, Met sources said.
Power supply was affected in some parts and it was rectified
by the Electricity Board personnel.
In the last 24 hours ending 0830 hrs today, Erode recorded
110 mm of rainfall, Perundurai 85 mm, Modakurichi 75 mm,
Pungampadi 61 mm, Kavindapady 47.4 mm, Olapalayam 47 mm,
Arachalure and Sivagiri 45 mm each, Chennimalai 38 mm, Bhavani
33.2 mm, Orathupalayam 32 mm, Sathyamangalam 27 mm,
Gobichettipalayam 24 mm, Muthur 20 mm, Elandaikuttaimedu and
Bhavanisagar 18 mm each.
Meanwhile, with the proposed lorry strike slated to begin
from midnight tonight, local vehicles stopped plying from
morning. Some lorries coming from North Indian towns were
parked at the lorry stand. LPG tanker lorry owners also
announced that they would participate in the strike.
Police are maintaining strict vigil, police sources said.
