Coimbatore: Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi today assured that various demands pertaining to railways from the region would be examined.

Replying to a specific question on the demand for diverting 13 major trains, which are going through nearby Podanur, through the city station, he said he had all the details and would take a decision after examining them.

On providing more basic amenities at the railway station, he said the Ministry had plans to modernise all the railway stations in the country.

Giving facelift and providing amenities to Coimbatore is part of ministry's plans and the station would not be left out, Trivedi, on his way to Palakkad to lay foundation for a Rail Coach manufacturing unit, said.

Trivedi told a delegation of Coimbatore Railway Struggle Committee that he was aware of the issues and soon a decision would be taken on them.

The demands included Coimbatore-Rameswaram overnight train, which was operated as a special winter train last year covering eight district headquarters of Tamil Nadu, making Coimbatore-Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi Express and Mettupalayam Coimbatore passenger a daily train and extension of Bangalore-Jodhpur Express to Coimbatore and extension of Coimbatore-Jaipur Express to Ajmer, the committee coordinator, G K Nagaraj, who met the minister, said.
