Chennai: CBI on Friday seized Rs 1.11 crore,
including Rs 83 lakh fixed deposit bonds, during a raid at the
residence of a senior Customs officer here.
Rs 28.20 lakh cash, the FD bonds and documents of a house
valued at Rs 25 lakh were seized by CBI yesterday during the
search at the residence of a Deputy Commissioner of Customs, a
press release from the agency said here on Friday.
The agency said the seizures followed a case registered
by it against officials of Chennai Customs for conspiring with
a city-based private firm and others and sanctioning
fraudulent and false refund claims made by the firm and
issuing a cheque for Rs 1,19,95,259.
